I have done cover art for different publishing companies, including Meadowhawk Press, a speculative fiction press run by my wife and myself. All my artwork is done under the pen name Dirk Steele. I suppose it may seem superfluous to publish art under a fake i.d., however it's my art and I have my reasons. Most of them silly. |
Personally this is the most important painting I have ever done. I was delighted when my beautiful wife let me do this painting depicting a scene from her fantasy novel, Redheart, by Meadowhawk Press. Next to our children, I believe this story is the most important, beautiful, moving thing she has ever created; and no words will ever express how proud of her I am. This piece was commissioned for a cover for the benefit anthology, Touched By Wonder, of which a portion of the proceeds go to benefit Breast Cancer Awareness and Research. The cover was inspired by one of the stories from the anthology, in which a woman, who is dying from breast cancer, seeks out a magical cure--but every magic has a price. The model for the illustration was our friend, Ann Hundemer, herself a breast cancer survivor. As you can see, this was a very emotional project. Detail Closeups Finished Cover
